So today I took a train for the first time since arriving in Edinburgh! (Actually, took any form of public transit for the first time — and any transit since I took a taxi to my flat!)
I set my alarm for 9am, and got up, had some cereal for breakfast, checked emails, and set off for the station at about 10am. When I got there, I was able to get a ticket (two-way) without trouble, and then I poked around before going to wait for my train. (I elected to take the 11:03 — the tickets I got allowed me to take any time train, which is quite lovely).
This post is actually going to have photos! (Some of them featuring a little stuffed lamb I got for myself about a week ago — a nice little travel buddy.)
Lamb with the ticket, heading out!
On the train — Scottish countryside (ish) – blurry, but pretty.
View of Stirling Castle from below — where Mary, Queen of Scots was crowned Queen at the age of six days.
King’s Knot sign, which is apparently built on a medieval jousting ground called “The Round Table”, after the stories of Arthur.
The lamb decides to explore the fence.
One of the streets in Stirling, from my wanders.
All in all, though I was only there for about 2.5 hours, it was good to do. It was a bit (okay more than a bit, maybe!) out of my comfort zone, but it was a nice experience to have. I had some of the best, best soup I’ve had since being here. (See photo below). I didn’t have the butter that came with it, since I am allergic, but the soup was “Lentil & Veg” and nice and warm and comforting. It was from a café near the shopping centre which I happened upon while searching for a café where I could get more than just a cup of tea. (So many cafés have sandwiches, but they are pre-made and most any vegetarian ones have cheese, making it impossible for me to eat them. Alas. Vegan soup saves the day!)

It’s good to know I can do things like this, and have fun whilst doing them!
Short post of mostly photos, but I thought it apt to post about this.
Love,
Emily
